At Holy Family Primary School, we place a strong focus on helping every child grow as a confident and capable reader. One of the ways we support this each day is through paired reading fluency during our morning literacy routine.
Paired fluency provides students with a regular opportunity to practise reading aloud with a partner. This simple but powerful routine helps children develop accuracy, expression, pace and confidence in their reading. When students read together, they are able to hear fluent reading modelled, support one another and practise skills in a calm and encouraging environment.
Beginning the day with reading also sets a positive and focused tone for learning. It allows students to settle into the school day, engage their minds and build strong literacy habits. Over time, these small daily moments of practice make a significant difference in helping students become more automatic and confident readers.
At Holy Family, paired fluency reflects our commitment to evidence-informed teaching and consistent routines that support every learner. It is wonderful to see students encouraging each other, celebrating progress and taking pride in their growing reading skills.
By investing time each morning in reading together, we are helping our students build the strong literacy foundations they need for success across all areas of learning.
