Straight Classes at Holy Family

At Holy Family we understand that every classroom setup plays a big role in your child’s learning experience. One option many schools offer is straight classes, where students are grouped with others in the same year level (e.g., all Year 4 students together). These classes offer several key benefits that support both academic success and personal growth.

In 2025, we have moved from a composite class setup to a straight class setup at Holy Family. Curriuclum delivery is changing therefore we needed to think of the best way to support these changes in terms of stduent groupings.

🎯 1. Focused Curriculum Delivery

Straight classes allow teachers to focus on one specific year level's curriculum but they always plan by looking at levels before and beyond the year level to challenge and support all learners. This model of class groupings supports our explicit teaching, novel studies and knowledge rich curriculum implementation.

🧠 2. Age-Appropriate Learning

Students are grouped with peers at the same developmental stage, allowing teachers to differentiate their instruction, activities, and behavior expectations in a way that suits the age group more precisely.

🏫 3. Streamlined Classroom Management

With students of the same age and class, routines, expectations, and transitions can be smoother, creating a more structured and focused learning environment.

🤝 4. Social Benefits

Children benefit socially from interacting with peers of the same age. Friendships can form more naturally, and group work is often more balanced when students are at similar developmental and academic levels.

While every class model has its strengths, straight classes offer a focused, developmentally aligned environment where students can thrive both academically and socially.
